Dave Kaplan was born and raised in Manhattan and has spent his entire professional life working in NYC. He and his wife, Elaine, live in Chelsea, where they are raising their daughter, Marae.  CLICK HERE for NY TIMES "Sunday Routine" Feature

Dave graduated Vassar College, cum laude, in 1983. In 1986, he graduated from Hofstra University School of Law, passing the bar exam shortly thereafter and joining the New York State Bar in 1986.

Mr. Kaplan clerked and was an associate at Fischer & Burstein, P.C. from 1984-1987, and soon began his own practice as a civil litigator. Mr. Kaplan represented a range of clients from all walks of life with great success.

Mr. Kaplan also has extensive nonprofit management experience, having held the following positions during the past 20 years:
  • 1992-2005: Greenwich Village Youth Council, Development Director and Chief Operating Officer
  • 2005-2007: Building Educated Leaders for Life, Deputy Director
  • 2007-2010: YMCA of Greater New York, Executive Director
  • 2010-2012: The Children's Museum of the Arts, Executive Director

During the late '80s and '90s, Mr. Kaplan served as a senior legal writer and publication manager for Matthew Bender & Co., a Times Mirror subsidiary. Working with experts in the field of civil litigation, toxic torts, products liability and employment law, Mr. Kaplan managed several renown legal publications with attorneys such as Lee Kriendler (Aviation Accident Law), Lex Larson (Employment Discrimination Law), Phil Borrowsky (Employment Screening Law), Keith Miller (Automobile Accidents), & Isidore Silver (Police Civil Liability Law).
